Trump Administration asks Supreme Court to Overturn a Recent Lower Court Ruling on Travel Ban
July 16 , 2017
The U.S. Justice Department has asked the Supreme Court, in a recent court filing, to overturn a decision by a U.S. district judge in Hawaii that limited scope of the administration's temporary ban on immigrants and travelers from 6 Muslim-majority countries. The current tussle between administration and court is that on the interpretation of an earlier Supreme Court ruling that allowed people with a "bona fide relationship" to a U.S. person or entity to enter the USA. While administration considers grandparents and other close family members as "bona fide relationship", Hawaii-based U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson expanded the definition to all family members.
