Tropical Storm Mahasen hits southern Bangladesh

Tropical storm Mahasen battered coastal areas of Bangladesh on Thursday, leaving 12 people dead and destroying thousands of homes.
Mahasen hit Patuakhali district with heavy rain and wind speeds of up to 60 mph, forcing up to a million people to evacuate the region.
Officials had initially prepared for a cyclone but the storm weakened before reaching the coast.
The storm has since further weakened over the Bay of Bengal.
Airports in Chittagong and the resort town of Cox's Bazar remain closed.
