Transfer of troop command from US to South Korea delayed
October 24 , 2014
The United States will maintain control of troops from South Korea if hostilities break out with North Korea it has been announced, thus again delaying a transfer of command indefinitely.
The security environment in the region and “intensifying” threat from North Korea were the reasons for the delay, the US and South Korea said.
No fresh date for the transfer has been fixed.
Since the end of the Korean war in 1953, a US general has operational control of both American and South Korean forces in case a war breaks out with the north.
