Train Wreck survivor cheats death twice
July 27 , 2013
Mormon missionary Stephen Ward said he noticed a backpack tumbling from a rack moments before the Spanish train lifted off the tracks. Ward blacked out as the train crashed into a concrete wall, his face caked in blood and his body was bruised when he regained his senses. The 18-year-old survivor cheated death in the crash which killed at least 78 people.
Four years earlier, the survivor had been diagnosed with rare cancer and had nearly died during a bone marrow transplant. Ward said he'd like to think that God has something in store for him, which is why he is still alive.
Ward was supposed to take an earlier train but because he accidentally bought a ticket for the wrong day, he boarded the train that ended up crashing. He described the crash to feel "like a roller coaster."
