Toxic alcohol kills 29 in India

  • At least 29 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh state in north India after they consumed toxic alcohol, the police have reportedly said.

    Most of the victims are residents of the state's Unnao and Lucknow districts. More than 120 people have been hospitalized amid fears that the death toll may increase.

    Deaths due to consuming toxic liquor are common in India.

    A probe has been launched into the incident, but no arrests were immediately made. Several officials have reportedly been suspended for negligence.
