Three men sentenced for insulting religion in Myanmar

Three men have been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail for insulting religion in Myanmar. The three men, who include a New Zealander and two Burmese, were found guilty of uploading a poster depicting Buddha with headphones, media reports stated. The poster was promoting a drinks event and prompted angry protests online. As per the Burmese law, it is illegal to insult any religion. According to media reports, the three men during trial denied insulting any religion. In recent years Myanmar has witnessed growing Buddhist nationalism.
