Three killed in shooting near Texas A&M University

  • A gunman shot dead two people including a police officer on Monday after opening fire from inside a house near Texas A&M University in College Station.

Four other people were injured in the incident. Police later shot and killed the gunman.

The dead officer has been named as Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann.

Bachmann was shot in front of the house, some two blocks from the university. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The other victim, a male bystander, has not been identified along with the gunman.

The shooting follows two recent incidents which have reignited the debate on gun violence in the United States.

A shooting at a Colorado movie theatre last month in which 12 people were killed and 58 wounded.

Meanwhile earlier this month, a gunman opened fire at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, killing six people before shooting himself.
