Three convicted of gang rape in India
December 18 , 2013
An Indian court convicted three Nepalese men for gang-raping an American woman this year.
The men have been sentenced to 20 years in prison and the verdict comes only a day after the anniversary of the much-talked about gang-rape, which occurred inside a moving bus in New Delhi.
The 31-year-old American woman was assaulted after she accepted a truck ride back to her guesthouse. The driver along with the two other men assaulted and abandoned her by the roadside. The attack prompted the U.S. to warn its citizens of the dangers involved in traveling to India.
There were several protest rallies around the nation in memory of the event. "I don't think things have changed," one of the protestors said. "It's just that women are less fearful of saying what's happening."
