Thousands of Zimbabweans Took to Streets of Harare to Demand Resignation of Mugabe

  • Days after the military coup, thousands of Zimbabweans took to the streets in capital of Zimbabwe (Harare) demanding resignation of President Robert Mugabe (who ruled the country since its independence from Britain’s rule in 1981). The angry mob (which reportedly has the support of the ruling Zanu-PF party and the military) marched to the residence and office of the 93 year old Mugabe (who is currently under house arrest after the coup) and tore his pictures. Military has reportedly said they are engaging in conversation and are likely to advise people on the outcome soon. Reports say consensus is emerging in favour of a transitional government including the opposition.
