Thousands attended the funeral of Nigerian author Chinua Achebe in his hometown in southern Anambra state on Thursday.
Achebe's body arrived back in Nigeria the previous day from the United States, where he passed away in March at the age of 82.
Achebe had been living in the U.S. since 1990, after a car crash left him paralyzed from the waist down, in a wheelchair.
Regarded as the founding father of modern African literature, his 1958 debut Things Fall Apart, which focused on the affect of colonialism in Africa, has sold more than 10 million copies.
He wrote more than 20 novels, many of which examined the political landscape of Nigeria.
