Texas inmate on death row released after conviction collapses

  • A 49-year-old man from Texas on death row for four years has been released after being cleared off a 2005 murder of a one-year-old child, as per media reports.

Manuel Velez, a building worker, was sentenced to death three years after his arrest in 2005 for killing the child, and spent a total of nine years in jail.

But the conviction faltered over the years, with tests on the victim’s brain showing that the head injuries on the child could not have been caused by Velez.
