Texas governor orders troops to US border with Mexico
July 22 , 2014
In a controversial move, Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, has ordered a thousand National Guard troops to the American border with Mexico, claiming that he had to take a firm step because the federal government had failed to keep the border secure.
Perry, a Republican, said his action would help combat the “cartel activity, human traffickers, and individual criminals” who threatened the “safety” of Americans. He said there could be no national security “without border security.”
