Techie-turned 'cyber jihadist' sentenced to jail
July 17 , 2014
Babar Ahmad, a computer expert from Britain, who admitted using the internet to support terrorism, was sentenced to over 12 years in jail by an American court.
Since Ahmad has already spent nearly 10 years in jail in Britain and the United States, he could be released in less than a year, his lawyer has said.
The judge said the seriousness of the crime had to be weighed against his good character — he had received thousands of letters of support and jail officers in Britain had described him as an exemplary prisoner.
