Taiwan's Polling on Same-Sex Marriage Begins
November 24 , 2018
Taiwan could become the first Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage if Taiwanese people vote in a referendum legalizing gay and lesbian marriages. However, a survey carried out last week suggest that Taiwanese people will likely vote against the suggested change. In fact, the top court of Taiwan had ruled in favor of same-sex marriage and went on to give the country’s parliament 2-years time for amending new laws and at the same time passing new ones. On Saturday, voting is taking place on two separate referendums, put forward by two groups. While LGBT community is asking for equal marriage rights, the conservative group is pressing for referring marriage as a legally binding union between a man and a woman.
