Taiwan prison siege: Hostage-takers commit suicide
February 12 , 2015
Six Taiwanese prison inmates who had taken two guards hostage have killed themselves following a stand-off that lasted 14 hours, authorities said.
The incident occurred in Kaohsiung prison and the inmates involved had been convicted for a range of crimes from murder to burglary, officials of Taiwan’s justice ministry said.
They were reportedly protesting against the sentences they had been given and alleged mistreatment.
No hostage was harmed in the siege as armed police surrounded the prison. The hostage-takers later shot themselves dead, according to the ministry.
