Taiwan arms deal: China summons US envoy

  • China has protested Washington’s announcement to sell two warships to Taiwan and summoned a senior US envoy to lodge a formal complaint. Media reports quoted China’s foreign ministry as saying that Zheng Zeguang, Vice-Foreign Minister, made solemn representations with the US charge d'affaires, Kaye Lee. The arms deal is worth $1.83bn. China considers Taiwan as a breakaway province.
