Syrian Troops Retake Palmyra from IS
March 3 , 2017
As per reports, Syrian troops with the help of their Russian backers, have retaken Palmyra from the extremist group Islamic State militants. The army along with the other pro-government forces entered the ancient city after the radical group withdrew.
The operation ended the jihadists' second occupation in Palmyra. The first time when the Syrian army controlled the area, many of the famous monuments were destroyed by the militants.
The radical group was driven out of the city in March last year, but they recaptured the area in December.
