Syrian town of Idlib hit by multiple bombings
January 17 , 2013
More than 20 people were killed in a series of car bomb blasts in the Syrian city of Idlib on Wednesday.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, security vehicles, buildings and a checkpoint had been targeted in the near-simultaneous explosions. Most of the dead are believed to be state forces.
However, the government said the blasts took place in city squares, killing civilians.
Rebel forces control the countryside around Idlib while government forces hold the city.
The attacks came a day after at least 87 people were killed in an explosion in Aleppo University, which both sides blame on each other.
