    18 year old Syrian refugee, Yusra Mardini, won her heat in the 100 meter butterfly on Day 1 of Rio Olympics 2016. Though she was unable to reach the semi-finals, Yusra said that her dream came true as she wanted to participate in the Olympics and she feels good. The event couldn’t have been more dramatic as she and her sister took to the waters for hours a year back just to get their dinghy toward Greek shores. In other important event, the first gold medal of the 2016 Olympic Games was won by 18-year-old Ginny Thrasher in women's 10m air rifle. In an unfortunate incident, French gymnast Samir Ait Said broke his leg during men's qualification event.
