Syrian rebels allegedly shoot down military helicopter in Damascus

  • Syrian armed rebels claim they have shot down a military helicopter over the capital Damascus.

The Free Syrian Army (FSA) said the aircraft was firing at people in the northeastern district of Jobar and had crashed in neighboring Qabun district.

State television confirmed that a helicopter had come down in Qabun.

Meanwhile, French President Francois Hollande has urged Syrian opposition groups to form a provisional government.

Speaking at a meeting of French ambassadors, he said France would recognize the government as "the legitimate representative of the new Syria".
