Syrian National Council head to resign
May 18 , 2012
The head of Syria’s main opposition alliance, the Syrian National Council, is to resign just days after he was re-elected as leader.
Burhan Ghalioun announcement follows growing criticism and conflicts within the group.
Ghalioun, who was re-elected as SNC leader on Tuesday, said he would step down after a replacement was found.
The SNC was formed last year but has been plagued by division.
Ghalioun’s critics say he is monopolizing his power and is too close to the Muslim Brotherhood, which form a major component of the SNC.
