Syria conflict: Russia's airstrikes target non-Isis groups too

  • Russia has admitted that its forces are targeting non-Isis groups in Syria as well.

Russian fighter planes have carried out further airstrikes against Syrian rebels. Moscow says it is targeting rebel positions in coordination with forces of Syrian president Bashar Assad.

The US has alleged that Russia has launched “indiscriminate military operations” against Syrian rebels.  American officials have urged Russia to limit its air attacks to Isis.

Meanwhile, some reports indicate that Iran may have sent ground forces to bolster the Assad regime.
