December 23 , 2012
A blast orchestrated by a suicide bomber killed eight people and senior minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour in a political rally in Peshawar. The blast took place at the residence of an Awami National Party (ANP) leader in Dhaki Nalbandi near Qissa Khwani Bazaar in Peshawar, an important city in the north-west of Pakistan. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack which killed Bilour a leading anti-Taliban activist. The ANP is a dominant force in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan and leaders from the ANP have repeatedly been targeted by the Taliban. Over a 100 people had gathered for an ANP meeting in which the blast took place. Apart from Bilour, there were other ANP officials, Bilour’s secretary and a police SHO among the dead. 18 others were injured. Bilour had been rushed to the hospital but succumbed to injuries. Bilour was a senior member of the provincial cabinet and the ANP is part of the national coalition government.
