Sudan's government minister dies in plane crash
August 20 , 2012
The Sudanese government's religion minister, Ghazi al-Sadiq Abdel Rahim, has died in a plane crash along with all the other 31 people on board.
Two state ministers and the leader of a national political party were also killed.
The civilian aircraft came down in the Nuba Mountains while on its way from the capital Khartoum to South Kordofan for a function to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
In recent years, there have been numerous deadly plane crashes in Sudan. Local authorities blame U.S. sanctions against Khartoum, saying it is difficult to get spare parts.
