Sudanese Transitional Ruling Military Council's Head Resigns Only After 1-day in Office

  • A day after the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was made to resign by the armed forces, Defence Minister Awad Ibn Auf resigned as the head of the transitional ruling military council of the country. In a televised speech, Awad Ibn Auf said that the new head of the council will be Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan Abdelrahman. Auf also announced that Chief of Staff Kamal Abdelmarouf al-Mahi has been relieved of his position as the deputy head of the council. A spokesman of the Sudanese Professionals Association (the main protest group), Rashid Saeed, said that the President Omar al-Bashir’s removal from the top post “is a step in the right direction and is a bow to the will of the masses, and we have become closer to victory”.
