Sudan: Country votes amid poll boycott call by opposition

  • Sudanese voters are casting their ballot in a poll that is being boycotted by the main opposition in protest against Omar al-Bashir, the president who has been indicted for war crimes.

Western countries and opposition leaders say the election lacks credibility because of the politically repressive regime.

Bashir, who has ruled the country since 1989, has been charged with genocide by the International Criminal Court. The president has, however, denied the charges.
