Sudan convicts a gang-rape victim
February 22 , 2014
A court in Sudan has convicted an 18-year-old pregnant woman for having the audacity of being the victim of a gang-rape. The Ethiopian woman was three-months pregnant when she was hunting for a house and got pinned down by seven men. She was raped inside the property and the act was filmed and posted online.
The victim as well as her attackers were arrested and punished. The pregnant woman's jail sentence was suspended given her pregnancy and was also spared of the death penalty because she convinced the court of her divorce.
The victim still faces an immigration risk; five of her attackers were given lashes and the sixth one was convicted of spreading the inappropriate material.
