Sri Lankan government to probe 'coup attempt'
January 12 , 2015
The newly elected Sri Lankan government of Maithripala Sirisena has said it will probe what it has called a coup attempted by Mahinda Rajapaksa, the defeated president, after he lost the polls on Friday, media reports say.
A key aide of Sirisena said the transition was “anything but [peaceful].”
Rajapaksa's spokesperson has dismissed the claims as baseless.
Sirisena, a former minister in the earlier government, has called for a national unity government to carry out economic and political reforms.
