Sri Lankan asylum seekers brought to Australia's mainland
July 29 , 2014
Over 150 Sri Lankan asylum seekers have been brought to the Australian mainland where they are being kept at a detention center temporarily.
They were earlier kept on an Australian customs vessel for several weeks, as Australia doesn't allow asylum seekers trying to reach the country by boat to set foot on the mainland.
A minister said their identities would be determined by officials from India, the starting point of the boat’s journey. The asylum seekers have been flown to a detention center in Western Australia.
