Spanish union plans protest in Gibraltar
July 29 , 2014
An Andalusian union has said it would occupy Gibraltar for one day in August as a “peaceful protest” against tax havens and the British military base there, and in support of small-scale fishing and reclaiming the area as Spanish territory.
The Andalusian Workers’ Union said the protest, planned for 29 August, was mainly meant to target tax havens.
There has been tension between Britain and Spain in the past year over an artificial reef’s creation by Gibraltar. Spain had claimed that it disturbed Spanish fishing boats.
