Spanish Socialist Party Leader Pedro Sánchez Swears in as the New Prime Minister of Spain

  • Socialist Party leader of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, is sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the country after conservative party’s Mariano Rajoy lsot the no-confidence motion, moved by Sanchez. 46-years old Pedro Sánchez was sworn in by Spanish King Felipe in a brief ceremony in Madrid on Saturday. Reports say erstwhile PM Rajoy was the first ever prime minister in history of modern Spain to have lost in a no-confidence motion. A virtual unknown till recently, Pedro Sánchez (an economist by profession and a former basketball player) promised to unite members of his Socialist Party and ultimately succeeded to dethrone Rajoy, whom he earlier refused to back in an investiture vote.
