Spain to impose restrictions on abortions
December 22 , 2013
Women in Spain are currently able to get an abortion within the first 14 weeks of being pregnant. However, the country is now imposing strict restrictions and allowing abortions only in extreme cases such as rape, serious deformities to the fetus and if the pregnancy poses a risk to the health of the mother.
Teens under the age of 18 will also have to get parental consent before the procedure.
"Many women will be packing their bags once again for those weekend charter flights to France and England," the president of France's Planned Parenthood Federation said. He mentioned that the situation is dramatic and will surely create suffering.
The bill is currently being debated by lawmakers and feminist groups are planning demonstrations for the coming months.
