South Korean PM Lee Nak-yon to Visit Japan during October 22-24, 2019

  • On Sunday, the Yonhap news agency has reported that South Korea’s Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon is scheduled to visit Japan next week (from October 22 to October 24). The news agency cited presidential officials to say that the South Korean PM will also attend the enthronement ceremony of the Japanese Emperor Naruhito on behalf of the South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Reports say Lee Nak-yon is likely to hold highest-level talks with the Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, the first time since Japan slapped export curbs on South Korea and the latter discontinued the bilateral intelligence-sharing pact. Though Moon’s office didn’t respond to the request of comments on the matter, an unidentified presidential official has expressed confidence in improving relations between the two countries.
