Soldier Shoots Assailant near Louvre Museum, Paris

  • A soldier on duty opened fire on a man for attempting an attack on him with a machete near the Louvre museum in Paris on Friday.

    Reports say that the man rushed towards a group of soldiers and guards, held the weapon and shouted "Allahu akbar" (God is greatest).

    In response to this, the soldier fired five shots.

    The assailant was carrying two backpacks and assumed to have had a second weapon. However, there were no explosives in the backpack.

    The man was injured by the bullet, but was taken into custody.

    Right after the incident, a security cordon was set up.

    As per reports, at the time of the incident, around 250 visitors were present in the museum. They all were taken to a secure area, and will be released in small groups.
