July 10 , 2014
US whistleblower, Edward Snowden, has asked the Russian government to extend his asylum.
The asylum request by the former National Security Agency contractor was filed with Russia’s Federal Migration Service, reports in the Russian media said. Snowden’s temporary asylum ends on July 31.
Authorities in the US have charged the 31-year-old with theft of government property and espionage.
In a recent interview to the German magazine, Der Spiegel, ex-US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton described Snowden as “a poor messenger for the message that he's trying to take credit for.”
