Situation in Gaza 'intolerable' eight months after war, says Jimmy Carter

  • Jimmy Carter, the former US president, has said that eight months after the “devastating” Gaza war the situation in the Palestinian territory remains “intolerable”.

He said “not one destroyed house has been rebuilt”, and people in Gaza needed to live with “respect and dignity”.

Earlier, the 90-year-old former president visited Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.  Former Norwegian prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland accompanied Carter.

Last summer's conflict in Gaza killed more than 2,000 Palestinians.
