Singapore shaken by worst riot in decades
December 10 , 2013
Roughly 400 South Asian migrant workers battled police and burned vehicles after a road accident, which killed an Indian worker last night.
The riot injured 18 people including police officers and defense force personnel. It occurred in the city's crowded neighborhood known as Little India and police arrested 27 South Asians. The media showed photos of burning vehicles and other disturbing sites, describing this incident to have been the worst one in more than 40 years in the city.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien said authorities will do their best to "identify the culprits and deal with them with the full force of the law."
