    South Carolina Governor urges removal of Confederate battle flag

    June 23, 2015 : Calling for the removal of the Confederate battle flag from its perch in front of the South Carolina State House building, Governor Nikki R. Haley has said that the symbol, which is respected by many, has for some become a deeply offensive symbol of a brutally offensive past after the church massacre in Charleston. The governor, who addressed a press conference, was surrounded by Republican and Democratic lawmakers. Last week a white gunman had allegedly shot dead nine black worshipers at the church.


    Charleston church shooting: 21-year-old suspect arrested in North Carolina

    June 19, 2015 : Police have arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of killing six women and three men at an African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. According to police, Dylann Roof of Lexington was detained in Shelby, North Carolina. Media reports reveal that the gunman had attended a Bible study meeting for an hour before opening fire. The church pastor was also killed in the incident. Investigation into the hate crime has been launched. US president Barack Obama expressed concern over the issue of gun ownership and condemned the massacre.


    June 18, 2015 : Several people are feared killed in a shooting incident at a black church in Charleston in South Carolina state.The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, US media reports say. In a message on Twitter, police said that they are looking for a white male suspect said to be in his early 20s. The church, one of the oldest in the country, was formed in 1816 and rebuilt in 1834 after it was burned down.
