Muhammad Rizalman Ismail, a Malaysian diplomat, has pleaded not guilty to the charges of sexual assault as well as burglary in New Zealand, according to media reports.
Ismail, 38, who chose to undergo a jury trial is out on bail, but his passport has been surrendered.
Last month, he was extradited from Kuala Lumpur to Wellington. In May, claiming diplomatic immunity, he had left New Zealand.
According to the charges, he allegedly followed Tania Billingsley, who later went public with the incident, to her Brooklyn home on May 9 and assaulted her there.
