Senior Al-Jazeera journalist arrested in Berlin

  • Ahmed Mansour, a senior journalist of the Al-Jazeera news network, has reportedly been arrested in Berlin following a request from Egypt.

Mansour, who is with the Arabic-language service of the channel, was detained when he was attempting to board a flight from the German capital to Qatar.

Egypt is believed to have issued an international warrant for the journalist. Last year, an Egyptian court had sentenced him to a 15-year prison term in absentia, on charges of torture.

In a video message, Mansour said it was “ludicrous” that Germany should pay heed to a “request made by a dictatorial regime”.
