Senate Bill to Avert US Government Shutdown on Verge of Collapse

  • House of Representatives, on Thursday night, voted 230-197 in favor of a budget bill for extending funding till next month in a last-minute bid to avert a US government shutdown. The upper chamber is all set for a vote but the Republicans and Democrats are still split on the issue of immigration. To defuse the situation, US President Donald Trump has called off his weekend Florida golf club trip and invited Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer to the White House for striking a deal to avert the US government shutdown. After an hour-long discussion, Senator Schumer told media that “some progress” has taken place but also pointed out “a good number of disagreements” are still there.
