Scientist didn't know he had won a nobel prize

  • Groundbreaking physicist Peter Higgs doesn't own a cellphone. Hence, the Nobel Prize Committee had a hard time getting in touch with him and went ahead with the announcement after not being able to get a hold of the 84-year old.

Higgs wasn't aware that he was awarded this year's Nobel Prize in physics until his former neighbor pulled up her car and congratulated him.

"She congratulated me on the news and I said 'oh, what news?" Higgs said. He then returned home and "started reading the messages."

Higgs has joined the ranks of the previous winners of this honor including Albert Einstein and Marie Curie.
