Schools, banks shut as thousands protest in Hong Kong
September 29 , 2014
Schools and banks had to be shut and roads were blocked as Hong Kong citizens came out in the thousands to make their pro-democracy voices heard.
Attempts by the police to use tear gas had the opposite effect, with more people coming on to the streets. The government later said that the riot police were no longer on the roads as the situation had calmed down.
Many observers are calling the nature and scale of the current protests unprecedented in Hong Kong’s history.
