Saudi-Iran Relations Reach New Low with Lebanon Crisis

  • President of Lebanon Michel Aoun has called on Saudi Arabia to know why Prime Minister of his country Saad Hariri has not yet returned to Beirut. Political crisis deepened as Hariri resigned from his position on November 4 while on a tour in Riyadh. This shock and sudden resignation was not accepted by the Lebanese Shia paramilitary cum political bloc Hezbollah as they refuse acknowledgement of the “resignation”. Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bahram Qasemi accused Saudi Arabia of trying to destabilize the region. Saudi authorities, in turn, accuse Iran of financing armed groups in the Middle Eastern countries.
