Saudi Arabia agrees to let women drive

With its recent lift of driving ban on women, Saudi Arabia ends its status as being the only country in the world to disallow women from driving. Pertaining to the recent lift of ban, Saudi King Salman said, “I think our leadership understands, our society is ready.” King Salman ordered driving reform in a royal decree delivered on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia will issue driving license to its women drivers from June 2018. For the first time, women in Saudi Arabia will be allowed to drive. The US State department welcomed the move as a right step in the right direction. As per Saudi Press Agency, Committees from various ministries have been set up to examine implementation and they will report within 30 days.
