Sanctions are 'destructive and short-sighted': Russia
July 31 , 2014
Russia has called the new sanctions imposed on it by the EU and United States as “destructive and short-sighted," according to media reports.
Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said the country would overcome economic difficulties that could arise because of the sanctions, hinting at localizing production and emerging stronger.
In a statement the foreign ministry said that such “decisions by Washington” would “further aggravate US-Russian relations” and have a negative impact on international affairs.
Chairman of the parliament’s foreign affairs committee Alexei Pushkov said in a Twitter message that Barack Obama would be remembered as the president who “started a new cold war.”
