Russian President says war with Ukraine 'unlikely', backs ceasefire deal
February 24 , 2015
Russia’s president Vladimir Putin has said that the war with Ukraine was “unlikely”, and emphasized his support for the Minsk ceasefire agreement.
In a television interview, Putin again denied claims that Russian troops were fighting in eastern Ukraine.
He indicated that if the Minsk deal were implemented, the conflict zone in eastern Ukraine would stabilize. He said that no one wanted “conflict on the edge of Europe”.
The Ukraine government and pro-Russia rebels have agreed to begin pulling out their heavy weapons from the front line as part of the ceasefire.
