Russian convoy clears customs at border with Ukraine

  • A Russian aid convoy consisting of 270 trucks has started to move deeper into east Ukraine after the first vehicles cleared customs at a border post manned by rebel fighters.

Russia claims the convoy will deliver food and other humanitarian assistance to residents of east Ukraine caught in the conflict between Ukrainian troops and pro-Russian rebel fighters.

However, some officials in Kiev and western nations have expressed deep concern over the entry of Russian vehicles into Ukraine.
