Russia vows to step up bombing campaign in Syria
October 4 , 2015
Russia has vowed to step up its air strikes against Isis targets in Syria, claiming that the bombing had significantly weakened the militant group.
According to a Russian military official, “panic and desertion” had started to set in among the militants, adding that about 600 “mercenaries” were attempting to escape to Europe.
But western countries say the Russian strikes were in support of Syria’s president Bashar al-Assad and were also targeting the moderate opposition.
