Russia threatens to veto UN vote on 'Srebrenica genocide' resolution
July 8 , 2015
Russia has threatened to veto a United Nations (UN) vote on a resolution condemning the 1995 Srebrenica massacre as a crime of “genocide.”
Voting for the resolution, which was drafted by the UK, has now been delayed.
Twenty years ago, as the former Yugoslavia broke up, an estimated 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were massacred in what was meant to be a site protected by the UN.
Leaders of Serbia and Bosnian Serbs have urged Russia, an ally, to vote against the resolution.
